Offer in Compromise Appeal Saves Client $93,000

A woman with a Federal tax liability of $93,000 recently hired Omni. She was trying to balance her duties as the sole proprietor of her beauty salon with the responsibility of taking care of her disabled 26-year-old son as a single mom, and she did not have the time or energy to deal with the IRS

Four months after taking on the case, Omni was able to submit a solid Offer in Compromise to the IRS. After six months of negotiating and providing additional documentation, Omni finally heard back from the Offer Examiner, who said that he wouldn’t be able to accept any Offer.

Omni appealed the decision, and was able to convince the Appeals Officer to accept a $561 Offer. However, when the Appeals Officer submitted the Offer to her manager, he rejected it. After Omni presented the manager with updated information – including bank statements and 1099 forms – he sent the Appeals Officer back with an Offer of $5,360.

Omni explained the figures again and negotiated aggressively on the client’s behalf. Again, they were able to convince the Appeals Officer that the client could only pay $561. This time, when she presented the Offer to her manager, he accepted it.
