Omni Helps Distraught Father Settle Tax Debts
When a computer network company hired Omni, it owed over $40,000 in past due tax liability. While the owner had punctually paid all taxes from 1998 until 2005, he failed to file returns or pay payroll taxes for all of 2006, failed to file or pay 940 taxes for 2005 and 2006, and failed to file any 1120s for 2005-2006.
This was partly due to a tragedy that had occurred in the owner’s life in 2004. At that time, his wife gave birth to a baby girl who was born with a form of epilepsy that usually leads to mental retardation. This tragedy hit the owner’s family hard—both emotionally and financially. From May, 2004, through the present, the girl has faced repeated hospitalizations, testing, and surgery. Her tragedy is documented in an Internet blog that Omni submitted to the IRS along with her medical records in support of a penalty abatement request.
In response to Omni’s penalty abatement request, all penalties and associated interest for the periods in question were abated by the Revenue Officer, leaving approximately a $25,000 liability. Omni concurrently set up an installment agreement with the IRS on behalf of the taxpayer for the remaining balance owed.
Recently, the client defaulted on the installment agreement. He has updated his retainer with Omni, and is working closely with the newly-assigned Revenue Officer to get his company back on track.
