Omni Helps Settle Tax Debt in State of Washington
One of Omni’s clients had a lien against him from the state of Washington to pay his liability of $62,203. He made an Offer in Compromise of $5,000 to pay his liability, even though Washington has a firm policy that they do no accept offers less than the tax portion of the liability, which was $37,125.
Omni eventually proposed a payment plan that was accepted by the State of Washington for $500 per month for the tax liability total of $37,125. The proposal also said that once was paid, the state would review a settlement on the remainder of the penalties and interest totaling $25,078.
The state will periodically review the payment plan, and the client will maintain the right to submit an offer after he has a proven track record of payments. The state seems willing to negotiate a small settlement or abatement of the penalties and interest. So far, the client has saved approximately 40% of his $62,203 liability, or $25,000.
