Omni Reaches out to Chase Bank CEO to Help Client
Omni Financial was recently able to help a client going through a tough time in his life. When this Los Angeles man contacted Omni, he was unemployed and homeless.
He had worked for two years in the entertainment industry and was paid as an independent contractor. He did not realize that he needed to make estimated payments throughout the year or he would owe taxes, nor did he file tax returns until he learned he owed the IRS and state a substantial sum.
When Omni got the case, both the State of California and the IRS were aggressively trying to collect the unpaid tax. They had already levied his bank account once, and they were threatening even more action.
Even though Omni was able to quickly convince the IRS to put the client in Status 53 Uncollectable Status, they had much more trouble with the state. The state’s revenue officer refused to believe the client was homeless and even issued a levy against his recently opened bank account. The levy captured $480.50.
Omni immediately requested a release of the levy. The revenue officer refused, claiming Omni hadn’t provided supporting documentation like paystubs and proof of rent, even though these documents were obviously unavailable. Omni then contacted the officer’s supervisor who agreed to release the levy. The levy release was sent to Chase Bank right before the Christmas holiday.
Almost a week later, Omni learned the bank had not released the levy, and had actually issued a check to the state in error. Even after numerous conference calls, no one at the bank would fix the error and resolve the issue.
Finally, Omni decided to go straight to the top and contacted Chase Bank’s CEO. Omni contacted his executive assistant in the morning, and within the same day, they got a message from the Chase Bank executive office saying the issue had been resolved. Though the money returned was $450.50, the client was extremely appreciative, because it was the money he was saving for an apartment.
